MidiFlex delivers high-quality scarification with minimal impact on the terrain. Its unique design allows immediate planting after soil preparation, while also contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced machine wear.
The MidiFlex scarifier is equipped with two rotating discs that automatically sense the terrain and adjust the scarification to the ground conditions. The discs are positioned so that the tilled soil is immediately driven over by the bogie wheels, compacting the soil and eliminating any air pockets, which enables immediate planting. Gentle on both machine and environment, it’s no surprise that MidiFlex is becoming increasingly popular among landowners and forestry contractors.
The MidiFlex scarifier is mounted at the machine’s midpoint, in front of the bogie wheels.
This positioning provides low ground pressure through optimal weight distribution and reduces wear on the machine. It also gives the operator excellent visibility of the work and allows easy adjustment of the working width, disc angle and ground pressure to suit the current soil conditions.
MidiFlex scarifies the ground using two rotating discs, each mounted on an arm on either side of the unit. Each disc operates independently.
The discs turn over the topsoil to create an inverted mound, providing an ideal planting bed. You can choose between continuous and intermittent soil preparation.
The mid-mounted position of the scarifier also means that the bogie wheels pass over the prepared mounds, compacting the soil and eliminating air pockets between the soil layers, which in turn enables immediate planting.
Direct planting immediately after soil preparation reduces the risk of pine weevil damage, as grass and other competing vegetation don’t have time to establish – giving the seedling a better chance to grow strong.
Stones and stumps are left in place rather than being dragged up or displaced, helping to preserve the natural structure of the site, and by preparing only the areas needed for planting, MidiFlex leaves the surrounding ground largely undisturbed.
Mounted on a mid-sized forwarder, MidiFlex forms a compact, lightweight unit that can legally be transported on a standard machinery transporter.
Outside the planting season, the carrier can easily be converted back into a standard forwarder, ensuring year-round utilisation.
The MidiFlex is designed to give the operator excellent visibility of the soil preparation process and full control over its settings.
Working width, disc angle, and ground pressure can all be adjusted from the cab to suit the current soil conditions. Disc rotation speed is also adjustable and automatically adapts to changes in the machine’s forward speed.
All settings can be conveniently adjusted during operation via an in-cab control panel, allowing the operator to respond quickly to changing conditions.
The MidiFlex provides precise, continuously adjustable ground pressure, ranging from almost completely floating discs to a ground pressure exceeding one tonne.
Thanks to the lift arm’s cylinder geometry and valve function, ground pressure remains largely constant regardless of the arm’s vertical position.
This allows the operator to adapt soil preparation to different ground conditions, minimizing unnecessary ground disturbance while ensuring effective soil preparation where it is needed.
Low-impact scarification also reduces fuel consumption, as the engine requires less power to operate.
The MidiFlex continuously monitors operating conditions and adjusts the force applied by the discs to suit the selected ground pressure and the current working position.
Multiple sensors provide the control system with information such as forward speed, lift arm position, disc angle, and ground resistance. Based on this information, the system regulates the hydraulic force acting on the lift arms.
When a disc encounters a smaller obstacle, the system reduces the applied force, allowing the disc to float over it rather than displacing it. If an obstacle is too large to pass over in this way, the system automatically lifts the arm to clear it.
This intelligent response helps avoid unnecessary soil disturbance and preserves the natural character of the surrounding terrain.
The MidiFlex features two independently operated arms, allowing each disc to respond to obstacles on its own side of the machine.
The operator can also manually lift either arm or both arms using the individual joysticks. This is useful when passing larger obstacles, crossing ditches, or navigating other challenging terrain.
Both arms lift automatically when the machine reverses, helping to protect the equipment and simplify operation.
